Rural Development and Training on Hi-Tech Horticulture

Rural and urban India has a direct relation, linkage with each other in transactions of agriculture produce to cater the demand and supply which creates an opportunity for self-employment and to be a successful entrepreneur.

Looking at the rapid growth and improvement in the life style in the prime metros and cities of India and the increase in the buying capacity of the consumers and working women’s, there lies a great scope for the farmers, farmers group to gear up their farming activities to full fill the quality demands of the produce with good nutritive values, shelf life improving the expected productivity particularly as per the age and health improvement program.

Higher education in this field and a wide experience at the national level growing a variety of commercial crops, marketing of these in the premium locations to fetch the best retail price, enables me to share and contribute the effects of technology, research findings to improve the economical values and livelihood of the rural community by the following:
1. Planning of the farming activity with a combination of several concepts which will add values and income in overall eg – organic farming & their supply of residue free [safe to eat food], agro – tourism – provide a place to rest, relax and enjoy the rural life & food, plant seedling nursery – a ready made source, primary food processing – sun dried tomatoes, bitter gourd, curry leaf, vermin compost project – production and supply it to the farming and urban garden and farming theme.
2. Selection of high paying cash crops, multiple cropping patterns to minimize the risk factor and improve income.
3. Benefits of off season crop cultivation and the precautions to be taken.
4. Protected cultivations in poly house and shade net, crop selection and their cost benefit ratio.
5. Value addition through primary food processing at the farm level.
6. Application of proven technology, advance crop cultivation techniques.
7. Importance and benefits of integrated nutrient management, pesticide management, irrigation systems, mulching, use of bio-fertilizers, bio-pesticides to improve the productivity and quality. All this is suggested as per the crop short listed, location of the field, the climatic conditions in this area and looking at the soil conditions, water quality.
8. It is not just the farming activity but there is need to make the community understand the perfection in every single activity on time, hence efforts are taken on creating awareness and on improving the skills of the labor and the farmer and farmers group particularly in seedling transplanting on the right distance and time, inter crop managing the time of sowing and harvest maintaining right plant population, maintaining the schedules for the applications of manures, fertilizers, micro-nutrients, weed controls, foliar application of pesticides and growth hormones.
9. The market demands the right size and weight of the produce. The farmers need to understand the standard and specification of the produce demanded by the end consumer at the domestic level and by the exporter. This will surely help him achieve the best price and returns for his produce. Proper grading, packing and a price tag with a commitment of delivery on time are all the factors carried out by us in the training program organized through seminars and workshops.
10. Lets not assume that everything is easy and simple, but let’s be serious on performing every single activity by educating ourselves through interactions because there is a need to tackle the climate, atmospheric changes and their adverse effects on crop productivity and the failures, the tricky market behavior.
Hence efforts are taken to carry out all the above specified activities by Dr Nitin Bhore for the last 30 years on educating the farmer’s entrepreneurs, college students at the grass root levels so that their next generation also has equal interest to carry forward their ancestors farming business activity. Here Efforts, Time, Money and entire life is contributed and dedicated without any hesitations at individual level for the upliftment of the rural community without having any sponsorship or funds. Huge employment was generated.
The programs were carried out at the farmer’s farm, village temples, and school/college classrooms and at the village, taluka and district, state and national levels with audio – video facilities.
